Teaching Flipped gives university faculty an introduction to the ins and outs of teaching with a flipped, hybrid, or online MOOC-type classroom. The course will cover:The basics of flipped/hybrid/MOOC methodsWhat is known and not known in the literatureWhere these learning methods are headingHow to develop content for online (video) and for active, in-class learningWays to think about and organize your courseHow to assess both students and your teachingThe course is taught flipped/MOOC-style by veteran flippers and MOOCers to give you experience with the tools and learning methods that can help your students succeed in this type of learning environment. Plan to watch/read about an hour of material each week and then try out and share what you have found. By the end of the course you should have a good idea of how to flip your own course, and have the tools to do it well.
This course is intended for student-athletes participating in sports that carry a risk of head injury and concussion. You will work through a series of modules that present information on a variety of topics, including: What a concussion isWhat signs and symptoms might be present with a concussionWhat you should do if you have experienced a concussionWhat the return to play process looks likeA case study on the potential dangers of concussionsSome background on concussion laws and policies (in the State of Utah)After each module you will need to pass a brief quiz to verify your knowledge and understanding of the material presented.OBJECTIVES Understand what a concussion is.Understand and recognize the signs and symptoms of a concussion.Understand what to do if you have experienced a concussion.Understand the proper return to play guidelines and protocol.
