Class Central TipsLearn How to Sign up to Coursera courses for free1600+ Coursera Courses That Are Still Completely FreeWhat is Climate Change? How should we respond toClimate Change? These questions are complex, not least because the responsesavailable to us depend upon who is providing the answers and the particularperspective they take. The economist sees the economic challenges andopportunities of Climate Change; the scientist sees the need to describe andexplain Climate Change; the policy-maker and social scientistsee Climate Change as a social problem. Therefore, the first step tounderstanding Climate Change and what we do about it is to see how experts fromdifferent disciplines engage with the issue. The second step is to appreciate howour response to Climate Change depends upon the interplay between thesedifferent approaches. This course offers you an introduction to differentdisciplinary perspectives on Climate Change to help you think about how Climate Changeaffects you as an individual, as a member of your local community, as a citizenof your country and as a member of the global community. We have designed thepresentations, discussions, activities and assessment tasks in this course tohelp you understand what Climate Change is and what you – and we – should do about it.

Physiotherapy Exercise and Physical Activity for Knee Osteoarthritis (PEAK)

Physiotherapy Exercise and Physical Activity for Knee Osteoarthritis (PEAK)

Implement best-practice care to people with knee osteoarthritisThe PEAK program was devised by leading physiotherapists at the University of Melbourne on the basis of research evidence. On this course we guide physiotherapists in how to implement best-practice care to people with knee osteoarthritis, delivered through one-to-one consultations, via videoconferencing (using the Zoom platform) or during face-to-face, in-person consultations. The PEAK program focuses on patient empowerment through education, prescription of a strengthening exercise program and a physical activity plan, individualised to patient needs, and using minimal exercise equipment (e.g. elastic resistance bands and/or body weight) to enable patients to perform exercise independently at home. Many of the principles and concepts are applicable to other common musculoskeletal conditions, and to other telehealth videoconferencing platforms. Importantly, a suite of useful patient resources (including a Zoom consultation preparation booklet, an exercise booklet, an osteoarthritis information booklet, a knee plan and log book) are provided, so that physiotherapists may print/download them or use with their patients in a clinical setting. This course is also available to take in Spanish.Physiotherapists, Physiotherapy students, educators, researchers and other health professionalsTo complete some exercises with patients you may require basic equipment such as resistance bands.

Class Central TipsLearn How to Sign up to Coursera courses for free1600+ Coursera Courses That Are Still Completely FreeIfyou had been alive at the start of the eighteenth century, your materialwell-being would have been much the same whichever region of the world youlived in, and it would almost certainly have been a precarious existence.  Go back 300 years before the eighteenthcentury, and not much was different.  Butcome forward 300 years to the present, and we see a startling transformation. Incomesin some parts of the world have increased more than ten-fold; and now it mostcertainly does matter where you live – with income differentials of 50 timesbetween the world’s richest and poorest countries.  What has changed in the past 300 years is thedevelopment and application of new technologies at a pace unprecedented inhuman history – the steam engine, electricity and the computer, to name just afew.  With these developments, for thosewho have access to them, have come huge gains in living standards.Inthis course we’ll explore the spectacular (but uneven) story of economicdevelopment – beginning with the Malthusian era, moving on to the take-off ofgrowth in the Industrial Revolution and the Great Divergence in livingstandards that followed, and finishing in the present with the Global FinancialCrisis.  We’ll cover the main episodesand events in the development of the world economy in the past 300 years, andhave something to say about most regions of the world.  As well as dealing with ‘what happened’, thecourse will emphasise what is known about ‘why’ – and what lessons historicalexperience can provide for understanding how some countries today are so richyet others remain so poor.Course image: Copyright JL Brown. Logic: Language and Information 1

Logic: Language and Information 1

4.4

Class Central TipsLearn How to Sign up to Coursera courses for free1600+ Coursera Courses That Are Still Completely FreeInformation is everywhere: in our words and our world, our thoughts and our theories, our devices and our databases. Logic is the study of that information: the features it has, how it’s represented, and how we can manipulate it. Learning logic helps you formulate and answer many different questions about information:Does this hypothesis clash with the evidence we have or is it consistent with the evidence? Is this argument watertight, or do we need to add more to make the conclusion to really follow from the premises?Do these two sentences say the same things in different ways, or do they say something subtly different?Does this information follow from what’s in this database, and what procedure could we use to get the answer quickly? Is there a more cost-effective design for this digital circuit? And how can we specify what the circuit is meant to do so we could check that this design does what we want? These are questions about Logic. When you learn logic you'll learn to recognise patterns of information and the way it can be represented. These skills are used whether we're dealing with theories, databases, digital circuits, meaning in language, or mathematical reasoning, and they will be used in the future in ways we haven't yet imagined. Learning logic is a central part of learning to think well, and this course will help you learn logic and how you can apply it.If you take this subject, you will learn how to use the core tools in logic: the idea of a formal language, which gives us a way to talk about logical structure; and we'll introduce and explain the central logical concepts such as consistency and validity; models; and proofs. But you won’t only learn concepts and tools. We will also explore how these techniques connect with issues in linguistics, computer science, electronic engineering, and philosophy.

Class Central TipsLearn How to Sign up to Coursera courses for free1600+ Coursera Courses That Are Still Completely FreeThe cloud is taking business by storm. In fact, due to the extraordinary growth of the cloud, it has been described as a tornado, not a fluffy white floating object!Commercial research analysts consider cloud as one of the most significant trends with a potential to change the whole global IT industry.Governments, including those in the US, Britain, and Australia, have cloud-first policies now in place which mandate cloud over non-cloud services in ICT procurement. But CIOs and other senior executives, while it's on the majority of their agendas, aren't sure what it really means for their organisations - how to leverage the benefits, control the commercials, manage the business risk, and adapt their organisations. While it is important to set requirements, negotiate commercials (terms, service level agreements, and pricing), and sign the contract - it is also critical that we develop a clear plan for ‘Moving to the Cloud’ which realigns our business architecture, organization and most importantly our people. This course provides the answers that management must know to be successful and realise the benefits:•Where should I go cloud? •What are the commercials?•Where is my leverage?•How do I realign my business practices and architecture?•How do I gear up my people and structure my organisation?View the MOOC promotional video here: http://tinyurl.com/hvtz2ph
