Navigating Legal & Commercial Aspects of Sports

Navigating Legal & Commercial Aspects of Sports

0

The world of sports excites and engages people. The spirit of competition, the possibility of a winner, and the recognition of perseverance and dedication drive people to watch and even participate as athletes. This is how we traditionally think of sports, but there is also the business of sports. As this business has grown and become more international, a need for a system of rules has emerged. Hence, a once unregulated field has become subject to an increasingly complex web of legal standards. What are the laws that govern sports? How are they applied, both in the national and international context? What institutions are engaged in this process? How are the rights of athletes enforced, whether through a contract or otherwise? Over the next eight weeks, you will focus on these and other questions.

Using Photovoltaic (PV) Technology in Desert Climates

Using Photovoltaic (PV) Technology in Desert Climates

0

The high insolation in desert regions can result in a lower cost of solar energy. While this may be a key motivation to deploying PV in desert climates, there are also several challenges related to the technology that must be considered. In this course, you will learn what effect temperature and dust has on the solar cells and PV modules. The course looks at the cleaning methods used to reduce soiling, how to measure solar cell and PV module performance and optimize the design of the technology to enhance the energy yield. Finally, you will have the opportunity to consider how you would deploy PV technology in your specific context.

Desert regions are attractive for solar energy, with much sunshine and many opportunities for utility-scale and residential applications. However, their harsh climate creates challenges for photovoltaic (PV) module performance, reliability and energy forecasting. This program focuses on solar resource assessment and PV solar cell and module design for hot, dusty climates. The program will teach you the essentials on solar radiation and will explore the challenges associated with air quality and meteorology in harsh climates. By using videos, demonstrations, dynamic learning activities and real world data you will learn about the practicalities of PV technology and how best to tailor PV cells and modules for the conditions of the desert. We recommend that you complete the courses in the suggested order. However, you may enroll in either course based on your experience and interest. The knowledge gained in this Professional Certificate program will help solar engineers, investors and energy policymakers to understand and mitigate the challenges associated with siting, deploying and operating PV in hot desert climates.

Sustainability & Major Sport Events: Implementation

Sustainability & Major Sport Events: Implementation

5

When planning to host a major sport event you must take certain steps to ensure that the event is not only sustainable for the host city or region, but also leaves a lasting legacylong after the event has concluded. Thefirst course in theSustainability & Major Sport Events Professional Certificate program teaches the five pillars of sustainability and looks at how these pillars should be implemented during the planning and hosting phase. With these pillars as the core principles, this second course provides you with the practical steps to take and tools to use when managing an event, and more specifically when implementing a sustainable major sport event. You are also presented with best practices in terms of strategy, sustainable procurement, and action plans to further enhance your learning.

Islamic Bioethics

Islamic Bioethics

5

How does a world religion like Islam engage with the moral questions and challenges posed by modern biomedical advancements? Who contributes to the Islamic discourse on bioethical issues, like the beginning and end of human life, abortion, human milk banks, Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART), palliative care, brain death, euthanasia, pandemics like the recent COVID-19, etc.? How are diverse bioethical perspectives deliberated and how are mainstream positions developed? When do Islamic bioethical deliberations interact, agree or disagree with parallel discussions from outside the Islamic tradition and why?Such questions are thoroughly addressed throughout this ten-week course. As outlined in the Introductory Video, the course will do justice to the complex character of these questions. Thus, rather than providing only simple answers, the focus will be on explaining well-argued insights, understanding the diversity within the Islamic discourse, and showing how disciplines from inside and outside the Islamic tradition contribute to, and shape, the field of Islamic Bioethics.

International Charities in Humanitarian Crises

International Charities in Humanitarian Crises

The questions that arise regarding international charities are multifaceted and many times those within the leadership ranks of charitable organizations are unsure how to address these. This MOOC delves into the inner workings of charities and funds under both domestic and international law to examine how charities operate within different legal environments. The MOOC highlights some of the characteristic features of contemporary charities. It offers an alternative view, introducing the organization and operation of Islamic charities (particularly the Awqaf model) and the Islamic foundations of charity. It also pioneers a discussion about how new technologies such as blockchain can be employed as vehicles for effective aid delivery. The course is designed for top and mid-tier executives of international and domestic charities; donor executives in ministries, international organizations such as the UN and OIC and those engaged with trusts or charitable work; scholars, students and government officials dealing with charities and charity-related work; persons thinking of setting up their own charitable NGOs; those interested in UN sanctions and terrorist financing as these relate to charitable work.

There are over 50 major sport events taking place every year across the world. While these events impact on natural resources, represent significant project expenditure and impact on workers across industries, they also pose great benefits and can create a legacy for the host city, country or region. The Sustainability & Major Sport Events professional certificate program looks at the key sustainability factors to consider how a major sport event can be leveraged to build a lasting legacy that improves efficiency, promotes conservation of resources and adds significant value to the host community. The five pillars of sustainability; human, social, economic, governance and environmental, are explored on this program with a focus on core principles and real-world examples presented to further embed an understanding of sustainability within this context.During the first course you will learn about each of the sustainability pillars and the importance of how they relate to a major sport event. The second course provides you with practical steps and tools to plan and host a major sport event that is sustainable, with a lasting legacy. We recommend that you complete the courses in order, as the learning journey takes you from principles towards implementation. However, you may enroll in either course based on your level of experience and interest. In Partnership With

While any major sport event can pose great opportunities for the host city or region, there are also challenges associated with hosting these events. The environmental impact on the country's natural resources, the workforce, and infrastructure are just some of the considerations. It is essential to ensure that your major sport event is sustainable for your city throughout the event, but also after the event has been completed. So, what does a sustainable major sport event look like? Thiscourse will introduce you to the concept of a sustainable major sport event by using the five pillars of sustainability as the foundation. These five pillars; human, social, economic, governance and environmental, are explored in this course with a focus on the core principles of each pillar and how these need to be considered in this context. Real-world examples are presented to further highlight the importance of these factors when planning and hosting a major sport event.
