古書から読み解く日本の文化: 和本を彩る和紙の世界

##このコースでは、まず日本の貴重書で使用されているさまざまな和紙の製造方法、材料、歴史、定義を理解します。その上で、代表的な装訂である巻子本や袋綴本の製造事例をもとに和紙を用いた書物の製造について、そして日本・海外の事例を元に和紙を用いた書物などの修復方法について学びます。こうした和紙についてその性質をより詳しく知るための観察方法についても確認します。また、和紙について理解を深めたうえで、様々な装訂の書物で使用されている紙に焦点を当て、慶應義塾大学が所蔵するたくさんの美しい書物をもとに、さまざまな和紙の装飾技法についても学びます。このコースは、日本の古書や紙全般に興味をお持ちの幅広い学習者を対象としていますすが、特に、図書館員、書店の専門家、研究者、デザイナー、また、書物の修復に興味のある方などにとっては、非常に有益な情報を多く含む内容となっています。 なお、このコースでは、画像、映像など視覚的な資料を多くの利用しているため、残念ながら、視覚障害のある学習者がコンテンツの一部にアクセスできない可能性がありますことをご了承ください。 ビデオは日本語で、日英の字幕付きで提供されます。このコースに関する質問やコメントは、日本語、英語でも投稿いただいて構いません。回答は基本的に日本語で回答させていただきます。英語版も開講予定このコースの英語版が2021年3月より公開予定です。世界各国からの参加者とともに学び、コメントを交わしていただけますと幸いです。ぜひご登録ください。The Art of Washi Paper in Japanese Rare Books

日本のサブカルチャー入門

##サブカルチャーには実は比較的長い歴史があります。1950年代のアメリカのグリーサー（greasers）、1960～70年代のイギリスのモッズやロッカー、1980～90年代のグランジ（grunge）など、挙げればきりがありません。サブカルチャーはそれぞれより大きな「親」文化の中に位置しており、特に若者の文化的な恐怖や希望をそこに見てとることができます。このコースでは、1970年代から発展してきた日本のサブカルチャーを紹介します。日本のサブカルチャーを様々な側面から見てみましょう日本のサブカルチャーは、伝統的文化に比べると刹那的な若者文化であると長い間考えられてきました。しかしサブカルチャーは、若い世代が自分たちの住む世界を再創造することを牽引する破壊的な力を持っています。本コースでは、若者のもつ「未熟さ」や「脆弱さ」が日本のサブカルチャーに反映されている点に焦点を当て、それが結果的に若者が未熟で脆弱なままでいることを許容している現実を分析していきます。このコースでは、大串教授、新島教授、高橋教授、大和田教授の4名の専門家とともに、恋愛、戦い、テクノロジー、ファンカルチャーに焦点を当てながら、少女漫画や少年漫画、ボーカロイド初音ミク、コスプレ、そしてJpopアイドルについて探ります。それらを通して、日本のサブカルチャーを支える様々な文化的創造について学ぶことができます。文化を分析するための資料を用いて、日本の主要なサブカルチャーの基礎知識を身につけ、それぞれの特徴を学びましょう。このコースは入門者向けであり、日本や日本文化に興味のある方ならどなたでも参加できます。コースのビデオの一部は、英語字幕つきの日本語で再生されます。このコースは講師自身はファシリテーションに参加しませんが、他の学習者との交流を通して学びを深めていただけるように、全体を通してディスカッションの機会を設けていますので、ソーシャルラーニングをお楽しみください。

Exploring Japanese Avant-garde Art Through Butoh Dance

Get an introduction to the key concepts of Japanese avant-garde artButoh dance is practiced and researched globally, but the work of its founder, Hijikata Tatsumi, is relatively unknown. This is in part because archival materials necessary to learning about Hijikata’s butoh are not widely disseminated.This online course will make use of a wide range of archival materials in order to introduce Hijikata’s butoh within the context of Japanese and international post-war art and culture.In doing so, it will both deepen the global understanding of butoh and explore innovative methods for dance education.Explore Keio University’s Japanese language FutureLearn courses here.The course is aimed at any individual with an interest in Japanese culture and art, the experimental arts, and the performing arts, but it is principally directed towards undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers and practicing artists.The course also aims to be useful for educators wishing to deliver lectures and courses on butoh.The Educators/Hosts will facilitate this course for about three times a year. Many universities have their own art resources, but they are often not recognized as valuable and left under-utilized or not utilized at all. What is the situation regarding cultural properties in your university or school?In this course, we will examine how to bring attention to cultural properties in a university, preserve and utilize them. The course focuses on the ‘Ex-Noguchi Room’ as a case study, which is a cultural property of Keio University in Tokyo. Discover the rich history of Japanese literatureA book is a tool for preserving words and images. Through books, an abundance of information, including the knowledge and experiences of the people of the past, has been handed down to the present. But books are more than records of words and images. Their form, appearance, and even the scripts and styles used tell us about the fashions and technologies of the times that produced them. By studying old books, we can learn a great deal about the geographical areas in which they were made, the historical background, and the individuals and groups involved in their making.While displaying remarkable similarities with books produced in other areas of the Sinitic cultural sphere, Japanese books also possess some unique features, starting with their sheer diversity of form and appearance. Using a wealth of multimedia content, we will take a journey through the wonderful world of traditional Japanese books.Keio University’s Book CollectionKeio University’s Institute of Oriental Classics is a unique institution specialized in rare East Asian books. The Institute’s extensive collection comprises 163,000 items, and is open to the public as a specialized library. In this course we will make use of this rich collection and rely on the expertise of specialists and researchers who have been working for the preservation and study of these resources. Using state of the art media resources, you will familiarize yourself with not only the content of traditional East Asian books, but also with their physical appearance, format, binding method, script, and cover style.Learn about bookbinding styles and their influence on Japanese literatureIn the first week of the course, you will be introduced to the main bookbinding methods used in traditional Asia, and to the practice of rebinding books. We will also discuss the influence of Chinese bookbinding methods on early Japanese books in all their various shapes and forms.Explore old Japanese manuscripts and illustrated books in high-resolution images and videosIn the second week of the course, we will focus primarily on the different types of manuscripts and illustrated books that were used for waka (classical Japanese poetry) and prose tales (monogatari) from the 9th century through the 17th century. Each subculture sits within a broader ‘parent’ culture and can often give us an insight into cultural fears and hopes, especially in the youth of the population.On this course you will get an introduction to Japanese subcultures that have developed since the 1970s.Explore different aspects of Japanese subculturesJapanese subculture has been long considered as ephemeral youth culture compared to authentic traditional culture. It contains, however, subversive power which encourages younger generations to re-create the world they live in. We mainly focus on the significance of immaturity and vulnerability of youth which eventually give permission to younger people (in other words, minorities) to stay as they are.In this course, together with three other specialists, Professor Niijima, Professor Takahashi and Professor Ohwada, we will explore girls comics, boys comics, the Hatsune Miku vocaloid, cosplay, and J-pop idols, focusing on the themes such as Love, Battle, Technology and Fan culture, in which you’ll learn about the different cultural creations that underpin Japanese subcultures. 3Dプリンタやデジタルファブリケーション機器を導入する、小学校・中学校・高校・大学が世界中で増えてきています。また、地域の人々に開かれた、つくるための実験的な市民工房である「ファブラボ」も各地に広がってきています。そのような環境整備と連動して、いま一番大きな変化を迎えているのが、わたしたちの「まなびかた」です。大学のキャンパスにおける授業は、かつての講義（座学）中心から、実際に手を動かしてものをつくる体験型（演習）へとシフトしてきています。さらにはキャンパスを飛び出して、年齢の異なるいろいろな人々と交わる機会もずいぶんと多くなりました。自分の目で見て、耳で聞いて、手で触れて考える「まなび」が今一度注目されているのです。慶應大学SFC（湘南藤沢キャンパス）は、2013年に、日本で初めて学内の図書館（メディアセンター）に3Dプリンタを導入した大学です。学生、教員、職員は、たとえ授業以外の目的であっても、機材をいつでも自由に利用できます。学外のファブラボやファブ施設に学生が出向くことも多く、3Dデータをやりとりしながら遠隔でのコラボレーションも行っています。この講義では、慶應大学SFC（湘南藤沢キャンパス）に所属する大学生のまなびの日常シーンを紹介しながら、「LEARN（まなび）」「MAKE（つくり）」「SHARE（わかちあう）」という3つのサイクルが実際にどのように回るのかを感じていただきます。そして、今後の社会において最も重要と言われる「ティンカリング（いじりながら考える）」というスキルが、実際にどのようなものなのか、どのように身につけるものなのか、どのようにして伸ばしていけるのか、について考えます。毎週の講義の最後には、まだ3Dプリンタやデジタルファブリケーション機器が身近にない受講生にも取り組んでもらえるような課題を出し、それを通じて「ことばの知識」だけではない、「ものの知識」のありかたについて考えます。最後に、大学入学を目指す希望者には、対面授業として、慶應大学SFC（湘南藤沢キャンパス）での体験講座を予定しています。「つくる」ことと「まなぶ」ことが一体化した、「ファブ時代」のリテラシーの在り処をお伝えできたらと考えています。

We look forward to your active participation!Books have played a major role in the formation of Japan’s culture, particularly those brought from China. On this course we’ll examine how big an impact these books have had, as well as looking at how books and religion are connected in Japan and East Asia, and the history of publishing in Japan.Understand more about Chinese books, language and cultureThrough the course you’ll discover more about the different types of Chinese books, their characteristics and their history. We’ll also look at books with strong Chinese influences and examine the culture of the area of the world that use the Chinese writing system.Learn about the development of Japanese cultureWe’ll then look at how these books made their way to Japan and how Chinese culture influenced Japanese culture.
