Acumen and The Ariel Group have developed this workshop to help you develop your skills for storytelling. Whether you work in an office doing presentations in the boardroom, is professor of 30 or 300 students, interact with customers, or relating to people individually, using narrative elements will allow you to establish a closer relationship with his listeners. Storytelling makes your message memorable, the listeners will find a way to relate to you and, most importantly, attract the attention of his listeners, motivate and inspire in ways unprecedented. A story leverages more than an element of communication. Seasoned storytellers are great communicators and effective leaders. Acumen believes that the narrative is essential to change the way poverty in the world begins to change combat because conversations about what we see, feel, and know to be true in our environment tool. Change leaders recognize the potential in the world and have powerful stories that inspire action. With finite resources and limited staffing, developing the most appropriate business plan can be a challenge for many nonprofits that are more focused on the immediate needs than their sustainability over the long haul.This course teaches nonprofit organizations, social entrepreneurs, and social change leaders how to use financial modeling and creative approaches to market-based funding to scale the impact of their work. Since the Syrian Civil War erupted in 2011, millions of Syrians have fled their homes. Due to the scale and complexity of this humanitarian crisis, many of us still struggle to grasp the human reality beyond the news reports.We teamed up with the filmmakers from Living on One and 1001 MEDIA to bring you this Discussion Toolkit to challenge all of us to go beyond the headlines and learn about the individuals and families in the Za’atari refugee camp. The award winning documentary film, Salam Neighbor, will serve as a jumping off point to discuss the complexities of the crisis. Through the film’s immersive storytelling, you’ll hear from the refugees themselves and walk away with a greater appreciation of how we are interconnected as neighbors. By the end of the course, you will gain a better understanding of the crisis as well as the actions you can take.
If you’re running a cash-strapped enterprise, it's easy to see impact measurement as a “nice to have” rather than a critical need. But, there is a fundamental alignment between measuring impact and creating value for customers.Impact starts and ends with data. Data allows us to see how we performed, test assumptions, contrast performance, align incentives and hold ourselves accountable. Yet data gathering in the social sector often seems like a costly, time-consuming and daunting challenge. Lean for Social Change draws on the latest thinking in Silicon Valley on how to build companies that maximize customer value while minimizing wasted effort and makes it relevant for social innovators. We highly recommend you form a team of 3-4 people, preferably located in the same place. You may enter the course with a team or find a team using the course platform once the course starts.

Issues of injustice persist in our world today and require urgent action. Yet conversations around race, activism, extremism and justice can be difficult to have. This course will equip you to lead a discussion on these important and challenging topics by using Martin Luther King’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail” as a springboard. The discussion guide provided in this course will help you explore MLK’s arguments, dissect his masterful use of rhetoric, and come to a better understanding of how to address issues of social injustice in the present time and in your own community.
This course was designed for social entrepreneurs, conservation specialists, or corporate innovators who want to apply entrepreneurial mindsets and methodologies to address challenges related to environmental sustainability and social impact.This is a hands-on, project-based course that consists of weekly readings, videos, and workshops. In the first week of the course, you will select an environmental challenge to explore. In each workshop, you will apply the concepts you learned in the reading to propose solutions to the environmental challenge.The course features insights from Mark Tercek, CEO of The Nature Conservancy; Vien Truong, CEO of Green for All; and Michael Kobori, Vice President of Sustainability for Levi Strauss & Co.
