This course has been designed by the longstanding and expert team of teaching artists and staff at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, considered by many to be the birthplace of teaching artistry. In this course - The Work of Teaching Artists - Lincoln Center Education (LCE) will guide you through their systematic approach to arts education, demonstrating the skills needed for teaching artists to activate the artistry of others. You will be introduced to LCE’s seven “Purpose Threads,” which provide a framework for understanding the teaching artist field, and experience a step-by-step approach to the “Work of Art Thread,” based on LCE’s more than 40-year history in aesthetic education.Throughout the course, you will view and practice a range of facilitation strategies and learn about a planning process that is applicable in a variety of educational settings.This course is part of the 4-course program, The Basics of Teaching Artistry. Teaching Artists, Audiences and Communities

This course introduces teaching artists to the core principles which underpin successful engagement with audiences and communities.The course features case studies from the work of the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (Queensland, Australia) and introduces different approaches and knowledge required to work with multiple and diverse contexts and communities.Areas covered include: building projects and activities to deepen engagement with works of art, commissioning new work, understanding the transferability of teaching artist skill sets, connections with audiences and communities and an examination of collaboration and co-creation.This course is part of the 4-course program, The Basics of Teaching Artistry. The Places of Teaching Artistry

The Sydney Opera House specialises in long term teaching artist projects with a particular focus on exploring creativity in education. The physical building of the Sydney Opera House is at the heart of all projects. This course will focus on place as an enabling driver of developing creative projects, and complement the skills learnt in the first three courses.Teaching artists work with communities based in all kinds of physical places and spaces. In this course students explore how architecture, location and environment can be used by teaching artists as a springboard for shaping purpose, and developing projects. By provoking new ways of seeing location through play, experimentation and questioning, place can inspire teaching artists to bring personal and political lenses to activate the artistry of others in situated, relevant and unexpected ways.
