This course focuses on the application of theoretical approaches to the strategic management of technology and innovation. Concepts, tools, and process will be explored through lectures, readings, team activities, and case study applications. This course provides an introduction to the concepts, techniques, and principles of project management. Primary emphasis will be on learning the project management process outlined in the Project Management Institute's PMBOK Guide (Project Management Body of Knowledge Guide). Agile, extreme, and other variations of project management will be discussed and their key features related to the PMBOK Guide.Upon completion of the course students will be able to plan, schedule, budget, estimate, control, and monitor projects. In addition, they will become familiar with resource allocation, resource loading and the creation and use of GANTT and PERT charts.Purchase of the PMBOK Guide for use as a text is optional. For those wanting to use this course to support new or continuing certification by the Project Management Institute (PMI), purchasing the text is recommended. A certificate and supporting documentation is available for a fee upon completion of this course. This certificate can be used to meet professional development requirements for the PMI’s Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
